The physical processes of laser acceleration of charged particles in plasmas and their consequences and applications will be presented. I will first discuss electron acceleration by plasma waves generated by beat wave and Raman scattering and their effects on laser fusion. But the laser wake filed acceleration yielded Gev mono-energetic electrons with accelerating gradient of Gev/cm, making compact accelerator feasible. For proton acceleration, I will discuss Radiation Pressure Acceleration and Coulomb acceleration. The potential benefit of table top proton accelerator for cancer therapy will be discussed..
