簡介: 

  
   本組目前參與歐洲粒子物理中心 (CERN) 的 L3 實驗。利用當今世界最高能量的正負電子對撞機( Large Electron Positron Collider, LEP )產生數據﹐分析雙光子物理(量子電動力學的二階反應﹐重夸克與其裂變過程之探索(弱作用及量子色動力學)及由 e+e- g g 或e+e-g g 過程找尋新粒子。 往後 LEP 能量提升到 180 GeV( LEP 200 )時,精確地量測 W ± 玻色子質量及耦合強度,確定 " 標準模型 " 參數,進而推斷 Higgs 玻色子質量及三個規範玻色子耦合; 同時找尋 Higgs 粒子及 SUSY粒子。
  
   上述研究課題基本上與大型強子對撞機(如美國費米實驗室)研究方向是相為互補。在硬體發展方面,以新穎、精密的矽微條探測器製造為主。在中大建立起矽微調感測器電腦設計、電腦量測系統,以自行設計、測量、委託工研院加工,開發新感測器,並送往歐洲經束流檢測。現正發展處理多頻道、快速、微小訊號蒐集系統,以期近日完成從設計、生產到測試的一貫系統。

   國內生產 4 x 8 ㎝ 2 大型單面感測器的1993 年束流測試結果顯示空間解析度已達 3.5um,與世界現有之最佳結果逼近!下一個目標是 4 x 8 ㎝ 2 雙面雙金屬感測器的製造,以為將來組合 60 ㎝長之大型矽微條探測器之用。除此之外,高能物理實驗中傳統的正比絲室、漂移室及較新的 IPC 也都在研製及測試中。
 
   為與國外實驗保持良好連絡,本組除派人常駐歐洲粒子物理中心,參與 L3 矽微條探測器運行,吸取經驗外,更透過國際網路隨時與歐洲連絡,將國內電腦模擬及分析軟體保持與國外同步,以利工作進行。
